The Health Science and Careers division of Pearson's Professional and Careers Group has a need for a Acquisitions Editor to support the Allied Health list. The Acquisition Editor acquires, develops and oversees production of new book titles. Seeks out prospective authors through travel and attending conferences. Evaluates publishing proposals and manuscripts. Estimates demands for proposed projects based on customer trends and personal knowledge. Negotiates contracts with potential authors and agents, conferring with author, agent and publisher to reach agreement. Develops projects with newly signed authors and arranges for revision of existing titles. Creates financial projects for growth and profitability of future series acquisitions. Identifies and recommends new projects in specified areas. Acts as author's advocate and contact for rest of the publishing house. Develops publication plan for each project summarizing content of material, identifying potential markets and outlining financial plans including costs, suggested price and number of copies. Guides projects through departments for all phases of production, including editing, design, formatting and manufacturing. Ensures products are within budget. Informs marketing, sales and production departments about new signings, and obtains input for them regarding sales figures and plant costs.

Must have prior sales experience in college textbook market. Excellent written and verbal communication. Bachelor's degree preferred. Candidates should apply online at www.pearsoned.com/careers
