The primary function for this position is to be a technologist who has extensive experience in deploying software applications in a variety of customer configurations and operating systems. The candidate must show strong communication skills, along with a strong technology background. The position is viewed as a leader in our Technical Services department, and the candidate must show leadership qualities. One of the main functions of the System Engineer is to be a liaison for many teams. These teams range from our field and support personnel to Product Management and Development. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to not only solve complex issues, but also to teach what they have learned. Mentoring and training other employees is a critical factor for success in this role. It is expected that this candidate stay on top of technology enhancements, while always looking to the future for ways to enhance our product offerings. The candidate also needs a good knowledge of quality software practices; the System Engineer role serves as the highest escalation point for each of our product families.

SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB

The Systems Engineer Responsibilities:

' Represent Technical Services in Product meetings
' Support and testing for Beta software releases
' Create and deliver written and verbal communication on emerging issues in the form of bulletins and or white papers
' Test and evaluate bugs from Product Support and escalate to Development and Product Management.
' Moderate and maintain Forums and SharePoint sites for latest issues, resolutions and documentation
' Analyze products for defects, document, then provide possible resolutions
' Troubleshoot escalated issues from customer sites and our Field Engineers
' Develop and deliver technical trainings to our Field Engineering staff, Product Support, and our 3rd party vendors
' Develop and deliver Self-Help modules for customers on best practices and common step sets
' Review technical release documents for accuracy and applicability
' Works closely with key personnel, including:
o Field Engineering
o Product Support
o Development
o Product Management
' Act as a liaison between Pearson and 3rd party vendors
' Participate in regular cross company team meetings
' Implement solutions for the technology needs of the department

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE (Knowledge and experience necessary to do job)
Related work experience

' Minimum 3 - 5 years experience in software and hardware deployments and troubleshooting
' Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
' Demonstrate excellent analytical skills, in conjunction with a structured, systematic approach to problem solving
' Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills
' Ability to learn and actively seek new skills, and keep pace with emerging technologies
' Ability to think creatively, adapt to circumstances, learn from co-workers, and share information and experiences
' Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional/cross-company teams
' Ability to manage several ongoing tasks and priorities with minimal supervision
' Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
' Proficient with setup, configuration, and troubleshooting PC and Mac computer hardware
' Expert user with Windows and Mac desktop operating systems
' Expert knowledge of Microsoft and Novell network operating systems
' Experience with Terminal Server, Citrix, and thin client devices
' Experience with Virtual Machines on servers and desktops
' Web Experience in deployment and monitoring
' Ability to analyze application performance using packet analysis and or Operating System resources
' Proficient with Database Technologies
' Solid knowledge of Active Directory, Terminal Services, DNS, WINS and DHCP preferred
' Knowledge of LAN/WAN networking and IP routing, including experience with Cisco or equivalent
' Field experience working with customers installing applications
' Travel is required

Desired Skills
' Project Management experience is a plus
' Network +/CCNA certification
' In depth knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint

Formal education or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree related to Computer Science/Computer Information Systems or equivalent experience
