A Sales Acquisitions Editor (AE) is responsible for developing and signing new titles as well as launching new and backlist titles to meet assigned sales and profit targets. Candidate must understand corporate strategy, attend sales meetings, and develop working relationships. Report on activities and strategies as required. Work with all PLS staff to drive company growth and plan for necessary reprints and revisions. Work with other Pearson units to develop revenue opportunities. The candidate is expected to deliver and sign new custom titles, manage large projects, launch new and backlist titles to meet or exceed sales objectives of an assigned territory. In addition to custom works, the Sales AE will be responsible for acquiring projects that involve original material, custom media and additional e-learning solutions. Inventory planning and list management are additional key responsibilities for this position.
Maintain close working relationships with bookstores and textbook suppliers. Prospect routinely ensuring that new prospects are being added to the pipeline on a consistent basis. Managing a complex, solution sale within purchasing cycle and moving the sale through the entire sales process. Continually learning about new products, improving selling skills and stay informed of current industry trends. Keeping abreast of competition, competitive issues and products. Attending and participating in sales meetings, product seminars and trade shows as needed.
Defining and executing territory sales plans. Develop positive relationships with other employees in Marketing, Product Support, Editorial and other departments and/or sister companies as needed to develop revenue opportunities for Pearson Education.
At least 2-4 years of experience, preferably in sales or acquisitions. Experience calling on diversified accounts/customers desirable. Must be able to demonstrate successful track record of outside sales in solutions or product based environments. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. A College degree in a business-related discipline or equivalent years of education is preferred. Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial organization, in both a team and independent environment. Willingness to challenge the status quo to drive significant increases in high margin, recurring revenue. Proven ability to negotiate and close complex deals. Proven ability in account management and in managing client relationships effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple client projects within aggressive timeframes is essential. Previous experience managing annual revenue of at least $5M required. Must be willing to travel as needed to meet with clients, attend sales conferences and training.
Candidate should be familiar with laptop PC environment, Microsoft Office and the use of Web-Browser based applications and content management systems.
The incumbent spends some time using a computer keyboard and mouse, which requires repetitive movements of the hands. The position requires extensive reading and verbal communications are necessary in meetings, personal contacts and via telephone, presentations and meetings to convey ideas and exchange information. This position does require travel to client locations as well as attendance to various training and conferences.
